This is an antique Model 1873 "First Model Rifle" that was manufactured back in 1878. It is chambered for the big-bore .44WCF (aka .44-40) and wears the original 24" octagon barrel.
This rifle functions properly with no issues. The bore rates about "good" and shows strong rifling with some moderate erosion and light pitting...still quite shootable if desired. This rifle comes with a Cody Museum letter which shows that it was manufactured with an octagon barrel and factory set trigger in 1878. Overall, a very decent 144-year-old first model Winchester 1873.
