Imperial Knife Interchangeable Blades

The Grandfather of the Modern Multi-Tool?

This is a vintage Imperial pocket knife set with five additional blades/tools: can opener/bottle cap remover (from long before the invention of twist-off caps), file, awl, flat-head screwdriver and chisel. The sheepsfoot-style blade on the knife in the picture is permenantly attached; the changeable ones are affixed/removed on the other end.

Besides a tiny spec of discoloration here and there, all the blades appear in pristine condition, rarely if ever used. The vinyl snap-shut case has no cracks or other damage, even at the points where it bends sharply.

I don't know exactly how old this is, but I traded for it in 1988 or '89, so that's nearly a quarter of a century right there. I am quite sure it dates back at least to the early 'Sixties if not more. I'm guessing it was a limited production run as well, as I've never seen anything like it, before or since acquiring this one.
